Roadburn is a leading light in the world of heavy music. Unrestricted by genre, Roadburn has an underground ethos that is coupled with large scale production values that allow us to champion scene-defining bands and pioneers alongside up and coming artists. Every April for four days from Thursday to Sunday, including the traditional Afterburner event on Sunday, Roadburn delivers heavy music ranging from stoner, doom, sludge, psychedelic, black metal, post-metal, experimental and beyond.

Curated by artists: Past editions have been curated by Ivar Bjornson of Enslaved and Einar Selvik of Wardruna, with artist in residence programs. Curated events have featured Fields of the Nephilim, Anathema, Skuggsja, Enslaved, Wardruna, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin performing Dawn of the Dead and Suspiria in its entirety, Zombi, Solstafir, White Hills, Bongripper, Floor, Eyehategod and The Heads.

2027 confirmed:

• Neurosis will return to Tilburg to perform their first European shows in over seven years. The legendary band, who released a new album earlier this year, will perform two sets at the event. Reunited post-metal veterans Neurosis have been confirmed where they will perform two separate sets. Guitarist vocalist Steve Von Till shared excitement about band’s return.

Event History

The festival started as Roadburn Festival 1999 as series of three shows held between 11 and 13 February 1999 in various cities in Netherlands with consistent lineup of Cathedral headlining plus Orange Goblin, Celestial Season, Beaver and 35007. First show was Thursday 11 February at Melkweg Amsterdam, second Friday 12 February at 013 Tilburg and third Saturday 13 February at Stronghold Sneek.

The eighth Roadburn occurred on 27 June 2003 in Eindhoven’s Effenaar headlined by Fu Manchu, performance released as live album Live at Roadburn 2003 in 2019. The 2004 edition headlined by Monster Magnet remained in Eindhoven on 17 June.

Move to Tilburg and popularity growth from 2005 to 2015: Tenth edition took place on 9 April 2005 when venue 013 invited festival to come back to Tilburg where it remains to this day.

From 2005 onwards, festival grew to four days Thursday to Sunday with Afterburner. It became Europe’s leading festival for stoner rock and beyond.

By train: Tilburg Centraal Station is 10 minutes walk to 013. Direct trains from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven and Breda. From Amsterdam, about 1.5 hours, from Eindhoven 30 minutes.
