Overview

London Calling Festival is the showcase festival for new bands in Paradiso, Amsterdam. Twice a year Paradiso hosts the festival where several bands play in the Main and Small Hall. The first edition took place in July 1992. Held twice a year at Paradiso in Amsterdam, London Calling is a main showcase for upcoming artists from the UK and US.

What started in 1992 as springboard to the European mainland for British bands such as Blur, Slowdive and Placebo has grown in 30 years into a showcase festival for bands from all over the world. The pop festival London Calling, which takes place twice a year in Paradiso, began in 1992 as showcase for the newest promises from Great Britain. Nowadays London Calling offers new, groundbreaking alternative bands from all over the world a stage, as springboard to clubs and festivals.

Bands like Bloc Party, Blur, The Libertines, White Lies, Florence and The Machine, Hudson Mohawke and Franz Ferdinand made their Dutch debut on stage during London Calling. For many of them it was their Dutch debut or first time they played outside of the UK.

What Makes This Event Special

Longest running showcase in Netherlands: Held twice a year since 1992, London Calling has more than 30 years of history. So yes, it has got a bit of history behind it.

Dutch debuts of world stars: Blur, The Libertines, Editors, Bloc Party, Ash and Franz Ferdinand are amongst names to have played London Calling and for many it was their Dutch debut or first time they played outside UK. Paradiso setting: The mythical hall Paradiso in Amsterdam is a former church converted to music venue, creating intimate atmosphere for new bands. Several bands play in Main and Small Hall, with close proximity to artists.

Two editions per year: The festival runs spring and autumn editions, allowing twice-yearly discovery of new music. Each edition features 30 to 40 artists.

Curated for discovery: Unlike large commercial festivals, London Calling is a main showcase for upcoming artists from UK and US and beyond, focused on new, groundbreaking alternative bands.

High Tea tradition: Saturday begins at Paradiso with the London Calling High Tea, a daytime program with talks, acoustic sets and special sessions before evening bands.
