Overview

Liquicity Festival is a 3-day drum and bass weekend festival experience with a campsite, multiple stages and countless side activities, held at the beautiful Geestmerambacht parkland near Oudkarspel in the Netherlands. What started as a YouTube channel in 2008 has grown into a worldwide music community known as Liquicitizens, a record label and one of the most beloved drum and bass festivals in Europe.

The festival is located only 45 minutes away from Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport, yet feels like a complete escape into the Galaxy of Dreams, the themed universe that Liquicity has built for its family. It is an intimate full weekend festival experience with campsite included directly next to the festival, welcoming visitors from over 50 countries.

Liquicity was founded by Maris Goudzwaard, Boudewijn Kustner and Mark van der Schoot, better known as Maduk, who began curating liquid drum and bass at a time when the style had no dedicated platform. The first small Liquicity event was held in Ruigoord near Amsterdam in March 2013, and after sold-out events in Amsterdam, Antwerp and London, the first full-day Liquicity Festival took place on 26 July 2015 in Diemen forest near Amsterdam. The 2017 edition in Noord-Scharwoude was the first to last a whole weekend, establishing the format that continues today.

What Makes This Event Special

The home of liquid drum and bass: Liquicity is not a generic EDM festival that books drum and bass on one stage. It is built from the ground up by and for liquid and soulful drum and bass lovers, with a deep connection to the YouTube channel that gave the genre a global community.

Galaxy of Dreams theming: Each edition transforms Geestmerambacht into the Galaxy of Dreams, with dreamy art installations, ethereal stage design, recycled hardcup systems, and storytelling that runs through visuals, stage names and side activities.

Free campsite included: Free campsite access is included in all festival entry tickets. You do not need to buy camping separately. The campsite closes on Monday, so there is no need to rush back home, and it features a camping shop available 24 hours per day.

All stages covered and intimate: All stages are covered or semi-indoor, offering plenty of dry and shade spaces. This creates a cozy, intimate vibe regardless of weather and allows for high-quality sound and light production.

More than music: Beyond the music, Liquicity offers fun activities like silent disco, hot tubs, sports fields and volleyball courts, yoga, arcade and games, mega twister, Giants Stride, mini games and much more, keeping the vibes high all weekend.

Family atmosphere: With visitors from over 50 countries and a strong Discord and online community, Liquicity feels like a family reunion. The crowd is known for being friendly, respectful and focused on music rather than excess.

Lineup / Featured Artists

The lineup for 2027 will be announced via https://festival.liquicity.com/. Based on previous editions, you can expect around 100 acts, mostly British, Belgian and Dutch, with the majority of the remainder being of other European origins.

Founders and core family: Maduk, Maris Goudzwaard and core Liquicity artists like Feint, Fox Stevenson, Makoto, Muzzy, Koven, Hugh Hardie and BCee are regulars who define the liquid sound.

International headliners: Previous editions featured Sub Focus, Pendulum, Wilkinson, Dimension, High Contrast, Netsky, Noisia, Andy C, A.M.C, 4am Kru, Camo & Krooked, Hybrid Minds, Alix Perez, Brookes Brothers, Lenzman, DJ Marky and DJ Fresh.

New generation: 1991, Arcando, Andromedik, Aktive, Andromedik, Crash Comet, Keeno, Whiney, Degs, MCs and vocalists who bring soulful energy to the stages.

Underground selectors: Acts like Seba, LSB, Etherwood, S.P.Y, Calibre, Makoto and other liquid specialists represent the deeper side of drum and bass.

Galaxy Stage highlights: The Galaxy Stage, the main stage, hosts the biggest anthems and live vocal performances, while smaller stages focus on deeper, dancefloor-driven and experimental sounds.

Event Experience

Three full festival days with an epic drum and bass lineup: The festival runs from Friday afternoon through Sunday night, with three big stages, multiple mini stages and continuous music.

Campsite next to the festival: The campsite is directly next to the festival site, with easy access, lockers, showers and food stands on both campsite and festival site. More food stands have been added in recent years, and a recycled hardcup system for both cups and bottles reduces plastic waste.

Side activities: Expect silent disco, hot tubs, sports fields, yoga sessions, arcade and games, mega twister, volleyball courts and surprise pop-ups. These activities are included in your ticket and run throughout the day.

Cashless and convenient: The festival uses a cashless system, no more lost tokens. You can top up via wristband or card. The camping shop is open 24 hours for essentials.

Community connection: Connect with other visitors via the official Discord at discord.com/invite/liquicity, where the Liquicity family shares travel tips, playlists and meetups.

Covered comfort: All stages are covered or semi-indoor, with plenty of dry and shade spaces, so you can dance comfortably regardless of sun or rain.

Event History

Liquicity’s history begins in 2008 when Maris Goudzwaard created the Liquicity YouTube channel with the idea of starting an entirely new subculture within drum and bass. He curated a particular type of drum and bass music that had previously not been labeled, and by doing so gave shape to a worldwide music community. Fans became known as Liquicitizens.

In summer 2011, Goudzwaard heard Maduk’s first track Avalon and promoted it on the channel. The cooperation evolved into a team, and Liquicity Records was established a few months later. Since 2012, Maduk has recorded yearly mixes of the most frequently played songs. In January 2013, they founded a new company for Liquicity events and label matters.

The first small event in Ruigoord near Amsterdam in March 2013 sold out and attracted liquid fans from across Europe. Several more events took place in Amsterdam and Antwerp, and in January 2015 Liquicity expanded to London. The first full-day festival was held on 26 July 2015 in Diemen forest. According to Het Parool in 2016, video footage from the festival was viewed 185 million times on YouTube.

Winter festivals were held in 2015, 2016 and 2017 in Amsterdam and London, with other events in Cologne, Bratislava and Prague. The 2017 edition in Noord-Scharwoude was the first to last a whole weekend. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, both the 2020 and 2021 editions were postponed to 2022, after which the festival returned stronger with sold-out weekends and the Galaxy of Dreams concept.

Attendee Experiences

From a first-time Liquicitizen: I came alone from the UK and immediately felt at home. Everyone knows the lyrics, everyone sings along to liquid anthems, and the vibe is so friendly. The hot tubs and silent disco after main stage were perfect for meeting people.

From a veteran camper: This was my fifth Liquicity. The free camping included is a game changer. You roll out of your tent and you are at the Galaxy Stage in two minutes. The covered stages mean we danced through rain without any problem, and the Monday closing meant no stress on Sunday night.

From a Dutch local: As someone who followed the YouTube channel since 2011, seeing Maduk, Feint and Fox Stevenson live at Geestmerambacht feels like coming full circle. The festival keeps the liquid soul alive while booking huge names like Sub Focus and Wilkinson.

From a couple: We came for the music but stayed for the activities. Yoga in the morning, drum and bass all afternoon, hot tubs at sunset and arcade games at night. It is the most complete weekend experience for drum and bass lovers.
