Jera On Air Festival 2027 – Ysselsteyn, Netherlands
Overview
Jera On Air Festival is recognized as Holland’s finest punk, hardcore and metalcore festival, a three-day gathering built entirely around heavy alternative music culture in the small rural village of Ysselsteyn in Limburg. What began as a local DIY initiative has evolved into the largest dedicated event of its kind in the Netherlands, drawing a fiercely loyal community of 8,000 to 15,000 visitors from across Europe and beyond.
The festival takes place on open farmland at Zeilbergseweg, officially registered as Agrobaan 15, 5813 EB Ysselsteyn, a flat grassy site that transforms into a full festival city each summer. The layout includes five live music stages, a dedicated DJ stage, the famous Punkrockbar, a special beer garden, a large curated food court, signing sessions, a festival market featuring underground labels and independent clothing brands, and a guarded campsite directly adjacent to the grounds.
Unlike large mainstream festivals where punk and hardcore are relegated to a side stage, Jera On Air is curated exclusively for the scene. Every stage, every vendor and every activity is built for fans who live for breakdowns, singalongs, circle pits and anthemic choruses. Despite booking international headliners, the festival has preserved a close-knit, family-like atmosphere where bands watch each other from side stage, crew members know regulars by name, and solo travelers quickly become part of a campsite family.

What Makes This Event Special
Pure Genre Focus: This is not a festival with a punk stage, it is a punk, hardcore and metalcore festival through and through. The entire programming is devoted to punk rock, hardcore punk, metalcore, melodic hardcore, deathcore, ska-punk, pop-punk, post-hardcore, emo and industrial metal, allowing for lineup depth that multi-genre events cannot offer.
Perfect Size: Large enough to attract world headliners like The Offspring, Architects, Papa Roach, Turnstile and Lorna Shore, yet small enough that you can walk from the main stage to the campsite in under five minutes, never wait long for toilets or food, and meet artists at daily signing sessions.
Five Stages Plus Culture: The site operates five live stages including two massive circus tents that deliver powerful sound while protecting the crowd from sun or rain, plus a DJ stage for late-night afterparties. The tent acoustics are specifically tuned for heavy music, giving clarity to both screaming vocals and melodic passages.
Community First Organization: The festival is organized by people from the scene for people from the scene. The team maintains a strong emphasis on respect, inclusivity, sustainability and safety, with a respectful mosh culture where anyone who falls is picked up immediately.
More Than Music: Beyond live sets, visitors experience a festival market with vinyl, streetwear and handmade crafts, craft beer selections, a food court with extensive vegan and vegetarian options, art installations, chill zones with hammocks and bean bags, and the legendary Punkrockbar which functions as a social hub.

Event History
Jera On Air traces its roots back to 1992-1993 when a group of friends in Ysselsteyn organized a small punk gathering for local bands. Early editions hosted a few hundred visitors with minimal infrastructure but maximum passion.
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s the festival grew steadily, booking more international touring acts from the European punk and hardcore underground. By 2007, bands like Dog Eat Dog and Nailpin appeared on the bill, signaling its arrival on the wider circuit. The address Agrobaan 15 became synonymous with heavy music in the Netherlands.
The 2010s marked major expansion. Capacity grew from under 2,000 to around 8,000, two large festival tents were added, a full food court, chill area, signing tent and festival market were introduced, and the event became known as the biggest festival for punk, hardcore and metalcore lovers in the Netherlands. Concert archives list performances by Silverstein, Turnstile and many others during this period.
The festival faced challenges including cancellations due to extreme weather and the global pause, but each return saw stronger lineups and sold-out weekends. By 2023-2025, lineups included Architects, The Offspring, Papa Roach, Hollywood Undead, Trivium and Jinjer, cementing its reputation across Europe.
Now entering its 33rd edition, Jera On Air remains independent, community-driven and genre-faithful, a mainstay of the European punk rock scene and a pilgrimage for fans who value authenticity over commercial crossover.

Attendee Experiences
Longtime visitors describe Jera On Air as a homecoming rather than just a festival. Many attendees have been coming for five to ten years consecutively, forming campsite families that reunite each summer, sharing food, drinks and stories. The atmosphere is frequently described as respectful and inclusive, with a mosh pit etiquette where anyone who falls is immediately helped up, and space is made for everyone.
First-timers often comment on how approachable the crowd is. Solo travelers report feeling welcomed quickly, with neighbors helping pitch tents, sharing sunscreen and inviting them to pre-parties. The relatively compact site makes it easy to meet people repeatedly throughout the weekend, turning strangers into friends by the final night.
Musically, fans praise the sound quality inside the tents, where even heavy breakdowns remain clear, and the ability to discover new bands on smaller stages between headliners. Sets by Dropkick Murphys, The Interrupters, Lorna Shore and Turnstile are frequently mentioned as emotional high points with massive singalongs.
International visitors highlight the organization, cleanliness, free toilets, hot showers on the campsite, and English-friendly communication. The food court variety, especially vegan options, and the availability of craft beers also receive positive feedback. Overall, the consensus is that Jera On Air feels like a community-run festival that still delivers world-class production and lineup curation without losing its soul.
